梅道克斯的第109場完投

梅道克斯與松板大輔在14日不但都投出了一場完投勝,而且教士與紅襪也都以7:1打敗紅人與老虎,這真是巧合.這是松扳的第72場完投(complete game),梅道克斯的第109場,可是松扳只是26歲,梅道克斯已是41歲,所以松扳到梅道克斯現在的年齡時,如果他還能比賽,也有可能投出像梅道克斯那麼多場的完投,但不一定會像梅道克斯那麼容易,就像14日的比賽,松扳要投124球,梅道克斯只需投96球.
松扳與梅道克斯是不同樣的投手,松扳是強力投手(power pitcher),梅道克斯是所謂技巧投手(finesse pitcher),純靠球位控制打敗打者,球速最高只有89哩.在14日這場比賽,梅道克斯投伸卡球,切入快速球與變速球,每球投出位置會使打者意想不到或打不出安打.一位紅人打者就說梅道克斯投來的球是像坏球,但到本壘時又會成為好球,投來時像好球的球,到本壘時又會溜到外邊.他能投六種球,樣樣皆精,而且每種球都會游動,會使人形容他投出的球是活的(live).他投球準確,據說能投到本壘準到只有一吋差距,是卓越的控球投手.不但如此,他的觀察力也很強,會從打者對前一球的反應,去決定下一球要投什麼球與投到何處.他是住在賭城拉斯維加斯,他也很會玩牌賭搏,他投法的選擇也可能就像他玩牌那麼精明,所以他真是一位投手大師.
梅道克斯今年加入教士應會使他表現優越,就像去年在下半季從小熊加入道奇後那樣,因為教士與道奇球場都是投手球場,場地廣闊,攻分不易,這將延長他的棒球生命.他今年已有3勝2敗,3.20責任失分率好成績,一共已贏336場.他那連續17年每季至少贏15場的紀錄可能將是棒史上不能打破的又一個紀錄.

Of all the major league pitchers, Greg Maddox is my No. 1 favorite (Sorry 王建民, maybe I'll change my mind in a couple of years). I watched a lot of Atlanta Braves' ballgames because of him. Now he is no longer with Braves, I also no longer watch Braves' games.
He would study every batter's batting tendencies. So, by game time, he has a strategy for each of them, and he made adjustments on the spot, depending on their reactons to his pitches.
His control also amazes me, needing only 70-80 pitches a game most times. That's one reason he is still there pitching. If Roger Clemens can still do it at 45, Greg Maddox should be able to do it at 50, if he wants to. I doubt it, though.

Speaking of the control of Maddux, does anyone still remember the "EXIT" story about Maddux? That really defines the phrase of "pin point control," isn't it?
